Nursery children from Eastbank Childcare and Barras Early Years took part in the ‘Easy Spanish’ showcase held at Bridgeton Community Learning Campus on Friday 28th April.

The children had taken part in a set of workshops lasting for six weeks and demonstrated their flair for the Spanish language by showing what they had learned. The youngsters showed how they could count from Uno to Diez, could recognise and say colours in Spanish and treated us to some songs in Spanish.

The showcase followed on from methods used within the workshops and was a mixture of games, storytelling, creative arts and music. At the end of the showcase the children, parents and teachers were treated to a song from Carmen, a venezualan woman working with Nuarts, and the children all joined in with a final song: Cabeza Cintura Rodillas y pies (Head, Waist, Knees and Feet).

This finale of the showcase was the Pinata game and this had everyone’s attention as the children got very actively involved. It was a terrific day for everyone who came along and demonstrated clearly how much Spanish the children could absorb in such a small period of time.

At the end of the showcase all of the children who took part were presented with a certificate by Councillor Redmond and then it was Adios!

"The Spanish Pilot Programme was an innovative, inspirational project to be involved in. The creative workshops were a huge hit with the young children and parents, from making musical shakers to Spanish flags each session was lively, fun packed and enjoyed by all. The most impressive element of this project was the level of understanding of Spanish that the nursery school children grasped over the six weeks. This type of arts and education has to continue!"
