Playbusters kid sign up to a Cleaner Glasgow

It was a lot of fun at James Lindsay Park in Baillieston as it hosted the D in the Park last Saturday.  This was organised by Clean Glasgow and was a chance for dog owners to enter their dogs into a variety of competitions such as best groomed dog, best large and best small dog and dog with the waggiest tail. It was also the opportunity for a free health check for their pets and to raise awareness on the responsibility of dog owners to bag and bin their dog mess.

Before the event started young people were on hand in their role as Neighbourhood  Improvement Volunteers with Playbusters who have signed up with this programme.  Although the event didn’t start until lunchtime 10 young people, staff and a parent volunteer met at Playbusters at 9 o clock to make their way up by bus to Baillieston where they met up with the Clean Glasgow Team.  With litter pickers and bags on hand they worked to clean up the park in preparation for people attending the event.  Throughout the day they helped to hand out information leaflets on Clean Glasgow heading back to Parkhead at four o clock,  tired but pleased that they had played an important part on the day.

Project Manager,  Margaret Layden, had high praise for these young people who are eager to become actively involved in their communities. She said “It’s really heartwarming to see these kids from Parkhead taking the time out of their weekend to take part in a clean up Campaign in another area.  It shows that they are interested in the wider east end.  A number of them have worked with us on other environmental projects and are currently developing a project around reduction of carbon footprints.  As a group they are also identifying other areas for clean up and every week these young people will take time out of their Playbusters club activities on an area that they have identified for action.  A big well done to all involved!”
