Playbusters have a well established link with the Clean Glasgow Programme, working successfully together since September 2009 and are looking forward to continuing the good work and expanding into other areas in 2010.

Children and adult volunteers were given the opportunity to become ‘Neighbourhood Improvement Volunteers’ and partake in clean up events with Glasgow Community Safety Services and Playbusters staff on a regular basis.  The children were asked to identify which areas they wanted to clean up and undertook monitoring of environmental issues as they worked.  This not only aids the Clean Glasgow Campaign but helps the children gain a better understanding of their local environment by instigating pride in their local community.

NIV Action Plan

The Playbusters Neighbourhood Improvement Volunteers have regularly cleaned up their local area and beyond! This diverse group of adult volunteers and young people worked in the rain, sleet and snow which didn’t deter, and their infectious enthusiasm and commitment made great results.

Before each clean up most areas scored poorly on the surveys completed and this dedicated team of all ages became more aware of litter, and encouraged others to act responsibly.

This brought the community together with everyone working on local streets and play areas, some with poor reputations, to make it clean for local residents. Many have commented on how fantastic it is to see young people taking action on littering in Glasgow and the results have been impressive and inspiring. Their hard work has been recognised by being nominated for a Clean Glasgow Award 2010!
