Dynamic Youth awards are designed for young people aged between 10-14 years. The awards encourage young people to self assess as well as peer assess each others work. Young people will identify challenges which they which they can carry out in youth work settings where they feel comfortable. The awards are fun and beneficial to young people as well as youth workers. The awards are externally accredited by ASDAN.

The awards are flexibleand can be work that has already been carried out as long as it has taken place within the past 12 months. CHallenges can include arts and crafts activities, outdoor residentials, plays, drama, research, enviromental projects, history projects, sports projects, volunteering. The list is endless.

There are 3 levels of time commitment

  • 5-15 hours = 1 star award
  • 16-30 hours = 2 star award
  • Over 30 hours = 3 star award

The challenges can be completed over the course of a few days, weeks or months.

Each young person has to fill out a challenge sheet. There are 4 steps

  • Step 1 = Plan it

For this step young people are required to think of an activity in which they will get recognition for. They should give their challenge a title and break it down into steps that they will take to complete it. From this the young people will develop skills in planning.

  • Step 2 = Do it and record it

Young people will record what they actually did. This section gives the opportunity for young people to identify what changeswere made if any. This will introduce the process of changeto the young people.

The young people are required to record how long the challenge had taken themand if they have previously completed a Dynamic Youth Award.

  • Step 3 = Think about what you have achieved

Gives young people the opportunity to reflect on the work that they have done and self assess their achievements.

  • Step 4 = Peer Assessment

This gives the opportunity for the group to reflect on each others work and comment on how they thought it went. This refelcts good youth work practice by measuring the steps gained by each individual.
